About Me

If I had to use four words to best describe myself these would be; caring, hard-working, intentional and driven. I am a 32 year old South African female, currently teaching English to young learners in Shanghai. Teaching hasn’t always been my career, however, it has always been something of interest to me, from helping my mother at her school during my university holidays to au pairing in Italy. In 2019, after 8 years in a successful career as a dietitian, I decided to venture into the teaching world, and I haven’t looked back.

Fast forward two and a half years, and I can honestly say this has been the most exciting, fulfilling and rewarding season of my life. I quickly realised just how much I enjoy teaching. What started off as an ESL teacher in a training centre, quickly led to being a K1 teacher in a bilingual IB Kindergarten. I love the role of being a teacher; I love the wonderful opportunity I have to shape, inspire, and mould young learners. In my classroom, I always strive to make sure my learners are having fun while learning in a safe, happy and comfortable environment. My goal is to make learning exciting, inspiring, challenging and most of all captivating.

This passion I have found in teaching has led me to the decision to make teaching a long-term career plan. I am currently enrolled in a “Masters of Education in Early Years” to obtain my teaching license. I know teaching is a journey, and most of my skills will come from being in the classroom, year after year, however the first step in becoming the best teacher I can be, is by furthering my education.

When I'm not working or studying, you'll find me running, spending time with my husband, cooking or baking.
